Course Requirements

OS-CIT is designed for learners who want to develop essential Information Technology and digital skills. The course is suitable for students, beginners, job seekers and anyone who wants to become more confident in using computers and digital technology.

The following requirements are recommended for joining the course:

Educational Qualification:

A learner should preferably have passed Class 10. However, passing Class 10 is not compulsory. The most important requirement is a genuine interest and willingness to learn Information Technology.

Basic Learning Ability:

Learners should be able to read and understand basic instructions so that they can follow lessons, practice activities and learning materials.

Computer Practice:

Learners should have access to a computer for practical learning activities. Depending on the learning arrangement, theory and e-learning content can also be accessed through a learner's smartphone or through an Authorized Learning Center. Practical lab learning is performed on a computer.

Internet Access:

Internet access is recommended for accessing e-learning content, online learning activities, digital services, assessments and other course resources.

Regular Practice:

Learners should attend learning sessions regularly and complete practical activities, homework, self-study, revision and practice to get the best results from the course.

Language:

The e-learning content of OS-CIT is available in Odia, English and Hindi, making the course accessible to learners from different language backgrounds.

Important:

No advanced computer knowledge is required to start learning. The course is designed to develop IT awareness, digital literacy, practical functionality and the ability to apply digital skills in real-life situations.

Course Description

OS-CIT is an Information Technology literacy course designed to develop essential computer, digital and IT skills for everyday life, education, employment and professional activities.


OS-CIT was started by Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited in 2011 and is designed to promote IT awareness, IT literacy, functionality and practical applicability among learners. The course aims to help bridge the digital divide and improve learners' knowledge, confidence and readiness for the modern digital workplace.


The OS-CIT course provides a structured combination of theoretical learning, practical computer activities, self-study, revision and practice. The complete course consists of 144 hours over 3 months, including 50 hours of theory, 50 hours of practical learning and 44 hours of homework, reading, self-study, revision and practice.


The course covers a wide range of modern digital skills. According to the official OS-CIT syllabus, learners can develop 200 plus skills through different learning modules and activities. The course delivery framework focuses on learning by doing, evidence-based learning, continuous evaluation, practical activities, gamification, 21st-century skills and multilingual learning.

Computer and IT awareness

21st-century office productivity skills

Smart typing skills

Daily life and study skills

Digital India skills

Job readiness skills

Work from home skills

Cyber security awareness

Digital communication

The practical examination areas include Windows, Internet, Google Drive, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, MS Word, Google Docs, MS Excel, Google Sheets, Google Forms, MS PowerPoint, Google Slides, MS Outlook and Gmail.

The course also includes assessment and examination components. The official examination structure includes objective and practical components and assesses learners at different levels of difficulty. The final examination is conducted through the online evaluation system, and successful learners receive an online certificate through the applicable certification process.

6. Work with Documents: Create, edit and format documents using applications such as MS Word and Google Docs.

7. Work with Spreadsheets: Enter and organize information in spreadsheets and use MS Excel and Google Sheets for basic data management and productivity tasks.

8. Create Presentations: Create and manage presentations using MS PowerPoint and Google Slides.

9. Use Cloud and Online Tools: Understand and use tools such as Google Drive and other online productivity services for storing, accessing and managing digital information.

10. Improve Typing and Daily Digital Skills: Develop smart typing skills and practical digital skills that can be useful in everyday activities, education and workplace environments.

11. Develop Job Readiness Skills: Build essential digital and workplace skills that can support learners in office work, communication, online work and other computer-based activities.

12. Understand Work From Home Skills: Develop awareness of digital tools and practices that can support modern work-from-home and digitally connected work environments.

13. Improve Cyber Security Awareness: Understand basic cyber security practices, safe internet usage, digital responsibility, netiquette and protection of personal information.

14. Develop AI Awareness: Gain basic awareness of Artificial Intelligence and its role in modern digital life and workplace environments.

15. Apply Digital Skills in Real Life: Use acquired IT knowledge and practical skills to perform common digital tasks in personal, educational and professional situations.

17. Prepare for OS-CIT Assessment: Develop the theoretical and practical knowledge required to participate in the applicable OS-CIT assessment and examination process.

The official syllabus specifically includes areas such as IT awareness, office productivity, smart typing, daily life skills, study skills, Digital India skills, job readiness, work-from-home skills, ergonomics, netiquette, cyber security and AI skills.
